Is Having a Vision Essential in Business?

A vision is a strong force in anyone’s life, but a vision is essential in business. See, it is a target where a leader focuses on resources and energy. The continual presence of a vision helps to motivate against forces of resistance. Things like; failure, emotional hardships (negative feedback) and real hardships (issues in the company).

It is the thing inside of us that guides us and creates a desire to grow and improve. Vision embodies our hopes and ideals. It gives us a sense of purpose and, brings us glimpses of what is possible.

Vision is a Mental Picture of the Future

It is an idea of what the future can hold, but has not yet happened.

Your vision becomes your why.

It should aim to answer questions like:

  1. What life do you want to have lived at age 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and so on?
  2. Who are the kinds of people you want to be surrounded by?
  3. What do you believe you’re capable of in life?
  4. What do you wish you could change about the world? That you could contribute to the world that would make you feel proud and content?
  5. When you pass away, what would you want people to say and/or remember about you?

Your vision should include who you want to be.

It is important to know clearly who you are right now and to know who you want to become. This includes your habits, attitudes, and perspectives. If you are unclear about who YOU are, you will be unclear about your future.

The destination of your vision is one that is emotional, physical, spiritual and intellectual.

Leaders need to keep the end result in mind. A leader’s (or entrepreneurs) vision needs to be strong enough to carry them through to the end. Even when all they want to do is give up.

Otherwise, they will stop short of their goals.

What is your vision?

Let’s work on your focus. With all of life’s distractions, and being pushed and pulled in different directions, it can be hard to feel a sense of accomplishment, right? As a leader, acting on your vision will provide you with the focus needed to accomplish your goals. Vision helps leaders work on what is important and not get caught up in the ‘other‘ stuff.

When you create a successful vision, you begin to feel passionate about it. The only way to be successful in it however, is to visualize it and set goals, create a plan of action to reach your vision.

Over time, you will begin to see more parts coming to fruition until one day you see yourself living it out!

Craft a statement that describes what your ideal life looks like. I know, it might seem a bit cheesy, but this exercise can be incredibly fun and rewarding. Similar to that of a vision board! Consider the following categories as you create this message;

  1. Health
  2. Ability
  3. Relationships
  4. Time
  5. Wealth
  6. Experiences
  7. Accomplishments
  8. Contentment

Using this list, work through to identify the key factors. Where do some of these things that matter, intersect or overlap? Would crafting your vision be something you would want help with? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to put something together for you!
