Something Every Stressed Out Entrepreneur Needs to Hear
You will probably agree with me that 2020 has been a year that has challenged us all. Recently I spoke at a high level mastermind in Sedona, Arizona where I shared a glimpse into what I’ve ‘going through’ these last few months. I’m not typically an emotional guy — but I definitely teared up as I brought it to the forefront. The reality is, the words stressed out entrepreneur are becoming more and more common.
Transparently, I’ve been working through what I have found to be best for me but it didn’t happen overnight. In some ways, it was almost embarrassing to admit where, why would it be?
I’m human just like you.
Burnout can happen to anyone at any time, but it’s especially common for entrepreneurs: A survey of founders found that about half worked more than 50 hours a week (some as much as 80 hours) and just over 40 percent reported feeling stressed every day.
And amid the COVID-19 pandemic, these numbers are only rising: nearly half of U.S. employees report feeling burnt out, and one in four said they’re feeling burnout due to the pandemic.
Folks, these are some astronomical numbers and I hope what I share with you today will help counteract that feeling of being a stressed out entrepreneur (or employee, too).
Something Every Stressed Out Entrepreneur Needs to Hear
The mental side of building a successful online business can take its toll on anyone. But as I mentioned above, the state of our world right now is taking a much heavier toll.
And the truth is, I don’t believe it’s being talked about enough.
Sure there is a ton of dialogue around the need to pivot and innovate but I felt it was time we shared a little more dialogue on how to cope with these feelings of uncertainty, loss, isolated, etc. Don’t you?
Here are 3 tips I share in the video above that I believe every stressed out entrepreneur needs to hear.
Give Yourself some Grace
Give yourself permission to have the feelings you’re feeling. It is a challenging time — period. However, you are not alone and, I am confident that it is inside you to rise above the most difficult times. You have your goals, dreams and deadlines and … you will get there.
But what I want to encourage you to do is give yourself the grace to know that what you’re feeling is OK. Spend a little bit more time in self-care department and don’t be ashamed about it. It is now more than ever, especially as a stressed out entrepreneur that you take care of yourself!
Find Someone you can Outwardly Express your Thoughts with
Holding the negative, discouraged or troubling thoughts in, only does MORE harm in the long-run. Whether it be your spouse, friend, mentor, coach, community or otherwise, find someone (or multiple people) who you can speak openly and hones with.
There have been some great threads in my Impact Academy on this topic and of course I would invite you to join in on them. (comment below if you need more info on that from me!)
Setting, Meeting and Knowing your Expectations
Unfortunately, it is going to get harder before it gets easier! Entrepreneurship is NOT easy because if it was, everyone would be doing it!
It’s OK and encouraged to expect rough patches, because that way you aren’t surprised by them. The primary goal here is to make a commitment to KEEP GOING — even on the tougher days. We have had an incredible journey in 2020 but I readily believe it is preparing us for incredible things very soon!
