We live in a society filled by constant distractions. There are unlimited things floating around us at all times that can take our attention, and often the ones that scream the loudest win. Unfortunately, a lot of those loud ones are unproductive in their entirety to your business. However, that is unless you can turn it into your success secret.
A simple way to improve your life is discovering your why.
Most people live their lives by focusing on what they have to do. Especially in business, the endless tasks continue to add up, right? And, we wonder why we never feel like we’re getting ahead. It can feel like we’re a hamster on a wheel, and every task completed is quickly replaced by new ones.
Now, in network marketing there are a ton of cliche sayings about finding your why out there. For example, ‘your why should make you cry‘, is probably the most common.
And so, what does that even mean?
You see, this is typically one of the first things people talk about is ‘the why’. Why they’re in business, why they chose network marketing or direct sales, and so on. But, despite this being the case … more and more people continue to quit every single day.
Does that mean their why wasn’t real?
Perhaps it suggests they didn’t dig deep enough?
Did they even know how to discover it in the first place?

In this post, we hope to help you use ways to discover your why and tap into your purpose. Because, although children or spouses are incredible reasons — are they what will truly keep you going on the days you want to quit?
In fact, and this is meant respectfully, children or spouses in many cases become the opposite. I couldn’t do my business because my child had gymnastics. I didn’t do any follow ups because it was date night with my partner.
And the list goes on.
So sure, they are amazing reasons for choosing this industry — but let’s explore ways in finding your true purpose. It is in this place that your business no longer becomes negotiable.
The following activity, will take you through some steps that we believe, will help you uncover your biggest success secret that’s been inside you all along.
Uncovering your Biggest Success Secret
This portion of the blog will be incredibly beneficial if you choose to participate – and we hope you will. If you can, grab a pen and paper or use a notes feature on your mobile device or computer even. Initially, make sure you are including the things that come to your mind almost immediately.
Write down things that you really love doing.
Maybe it’s spending time with friends and family, doing a hobby, your career, or traveling. The answers are going to be different for every single person doing this. So, there is no right or wrong answer.
What’s important — is what’s important to you.
It’s very hard to improve your life if you don’t know what improvement ‘needs’ to actually look like for you personally. In addition to the ‘whats important to you list’, you want to also have a list of the income producing activities your business needs. Feel free to make these lists in 2 different ones instead of the same.
After the lists are made …
… you want to look at what’s really important to you.
Do this by asking yourself why you love it and why it’s important that you have it in your life. We’ve been doing this activity over the last few years and found that the list got more and more refined and/or specific as we went.
Additionally, you want to look at how much time you put into these activities that you love. Do you get to spend as much time as you’d like with each one, or do they get pushed to the back burner?Then, look at your business priority list — where do they fit?
What is Really Important?
If you made another list of all the things you actually do in your life, you would probably find a ton of things you don’t really love. For some people it may be cooking where others love it. Everyone is unique, and this is about finding out what you want to be doing with your time.
Not what you feel you should be doing.
It is so easy to fill our lives up with things that don’t really matter to us. The trick is to ask ourselves how we spend less time doing unimportant things and more time doing the things we love. It’s not a perfect process where you can drop everything right now, but as you focus from this point on, you’ll be amazed at the results.
All businesses, organizations, and careers operate on three levels;
- WHAT we do
- HOW we do it
- WHY we do it
We’re all acquainted with WHAT we do; the products we sell, the services we offer, the jobs we do.
A few of us know HOW we do it; the things we think make us different or make us unique compared to the rest of the crowd, or our competition.
But only a handful of us can clearly articulate WHY we do what we do.
Your why messaging, is the most effective and the biggest success secret in which you can articulate your why—your purpose. Not just to other people, but to yourself as well.
Your ‘why’ messaging should be;
- simple and clear
- focused on how you’ll contribute to others
- expressed in language that resonates with you
The messaging should be include all of the qualities mentioned above —and it should be able to be done in a single sentence.
It should also be “seamless,” meaning that it should be applicable to everything you do, both personally and professionally—without separation.
In the book ‘Find Your Why’, by Simon Sinek, hr explains that your ‘why message’ is;
“a statement of your value at work as much as it is the reason your friends love you. We don’t have a professional WHY and personal WHY. We are who we are wherever we are. Your contribution is not a product or a service. It’s the thing around which everything you do— the decisions you make, the tasks you perform, the products you sell— aligns to bring about the impact you envision.”

Please note that this template is adapted from Simon’s book and we believe will help you dig a little deeper, get a little clearer and find the true why of your purpose in this incredible industry.
Example: ‘TO ____ SO THAT ____’
The first blank represents your contribution — the contribution you make to the lives of others through your ‘why’. And, the second one represents the impact of your contribution.
Your job is to plug in the blanks to create your own unique ‘why’ messaging.
Simon’s ‘Why’ message (or statement); ‘To inspire people to do the things that inspire them so that, together, we can change our world.’
Give it a go.
- Take you pen and paper and use the ‘TO ____ SO THAT ____’ template above to start drafting your own ‘why’ message.
- Take as long as you need to do this, and keep in mind that you can modify your ‘why’ as you evolve as an individual throughout your journey.
- Draft as many of these messages as you need to until you find the one that resonates with you on a deep and emotional level.
- Once you’ve chosen a meaningful ‘why’ message, take a second to celebrate yourself — you now have your ‘why’!
